COG group

COG1730 : GIM5 Predicted prefoldin, molecular chaperone implicated in de novo protein folding

KOG group KOG3048 (Hs4505743) = Molecular chaperone Prefoldin, subunit 5. Human homologue is MM-1, a nuclear c-Myc –binding protein. MM-1 is a possible tumor suppressor controlling the transcriptional activity of c-Myc (one frequent A157R mutation in leukemia/linphoma cells and squamous carcinoma of tongue cancer. It maps to chromosome 12Q12-12q13, where many abnormalities have been reported in cancer cells. It is associated also to p73 alpha, it may act as a molecular partner for p73 to prevent the c-Myc-mediated inhibitory effect on its activity.
