The camp.

Camp setup.

So here we are! As can be seen, our tents are spread on the sand, nearby a small village. A crowd of people and children from the village comes everyday to visit us, puzzled by our activity among the scientific equipment.

Everything is mixed up there on the shore: the camp is altogether our working place and our living place. Zakari, our cook, is preparing the evening meal just a few meters from the tents, the containers with precious samples, and the scuba diving equipment.

Fishermen and daily life.

When not working, one of the main matter of concern was food, as we had to find our subsistence on the spot. We had two cooks, Zakari and Gerome, to prepare our daily meals, usually consisting of potatoes and fish bought from the local fishermen.

Early morning activity.

Early morning breakfast. Evelyne, Denise, Glen and Andrew

Daytime in Africa can be very warm ... so everybody wakes up at 5 AM to enjoy a few moments of freshness before the sun rises hight in the sky and burns everything. People from the village come along with us to the lake shore to have a wash before we take our breakfast

Killing time and souvenirs.

Very few free time is left to the members of the team after a day of hard work. Observing the activity of village people is a very pleasant and interesting way of spending time. We could enjoy the simple fact of looking at children arriving on the shore in a fishing boat. Or just laugh and play with small children in the water as we came back from diving.

A group photograph is also a traditional occupation that must be honoured. So here it is !
