title: Codon-based Comparative Study of Archaeal Genomes

We concentrate on the protein-coding genes from 11 completely sequenced archaeal genomes to study the distribution of bases within codons, as well as the usage of synonymous codons and amino acids. We also measure the flow of intra-codon and inter-codon correlations from one species to the other. All these, along with the selectional preferences of codons for their nearest neighbours, lead us to propose the relative period of divergence of the 11 species from the central stem of archaeal life.
