title: Evolutionary inferences from whole-genome comparisons

I plan to discuss the use of comparative genomics for the construction of phylogenetic trees and detection of massive horizontal gene transfer. I will show that different methods developed for building "genome-trees" contain a mixture of phylogenetic and phenetic signals. Those enriched in phylogenetic information may be highly sensitive and allow us to delineate potential new major taxa. I will also discuss the effect of selecting different subsets of sites for phylogenetic analysis on major aspects of tree topology.
