title:

Proteomics seems to be one of these magic "omics" words which are so fashionable right now. A lot has been told and written about this new eldorado for researchers and investors. But as well as the spanish conquistadors looking for the Eldorado on the 16th century only found sweat and an impenetrable jungle, such is the fate of the unprepared researcher beginning in proteomics. The aim of the contribution to this summer school is to make an as clear as possible overview of the field, its present dead-ends and deliverables, as well as the coming challenges. Both the classical, 2D electrophoresis-based technologies and the newer peptide-only based technologies will be reviewed, as well as their input in real biological cases.
